What this is
Stephen King True Value (the “Site”) is a community-run catalog and price tracker for Stephen King book editions. This policy explains what data the Site collects from you, why, and what we do with it. No marketing or advertising data is collected and we don't sell or share your data.
What we collect
- Account info. When you sign in with Google or Facebook, we receive your name, email address, and profile image from that provider. When you register with email + password, we store your email and a hashed password (never the plaintext).
- Submissions. Anything you choose to submit: sales data (price, condition, source, optional photos and receipts), variant suggestions, forum posts, and listings.
- Login events. When you sign in, we record the event with a timestamp for security monitoring (catching compromised accounts).
- Session cookies. We use a secure HTTP-only cookie to keep you signed in. No third-party tracking cookies.
How we use it
- To let you sign in and identify you within the site.
- To attribute submissions you choose to make public (you can opt in or out of showing your name on each sale data point).
- To compute the True Value estimates and price history shown to other collectors.
- To respond if you contact us.
- To send transactional email (e.g. asking you to confirm whether a listing you reported is still active). We do not send marketing email.
What we don’t do
- We don't sell or rent your data.
- We don't share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing.
- We don't track you across other sites. There's no Facebook Pixel, Google Analytics, or similar.
Service providers
The Site runs on a DigitalOcean droplet with a DigitalOcean managed Postgres database. Transactional email is sent via Resend. We use the eBay API to verify the status of eBay listings you submit. OAuth sign-in is provided by Google and Meta (Facebook). These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy policies.
Photos and receipts
If you upload photos of receipts or books, those images are stored on our server and shown publicly on the variant page they belong to. The Site provides an in-browser redaction tool to let you cover sensitive parts of receipts before upload; we recommend using it. We are not responsible for sensitive information you leave visible.
Your rights
You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time. See the Data Deletion page for instructions.
